I don’t know why I haven’t seen this anywhere so I thought I’d make it and post it. It’s the lite version of Winamp 5.1 for USB thumb drives, that’s only 2.58Mb installed. Just extract these files into a folder on your drive and run winamp.exe.
Portable Winamp Lite 5.1
This works great for people with iPod Shuffles. They just plug it in and run Winamp to transfer songs from their friends computers or whoevers without leaving a trace. Great for those pesky people who don’t want extra things installed (parents/grandparents).
If this becomes popular and bandwidth becomes to high I have a coral link ready that I can swap out from underneath all the links I post. That’s why you are getting redirected now.

this is awesome!!! i love this and i’ve been using it for a few hours now. it works really good on my ipod shuffle and i put it on my 20gb ipod too and it works great. i just have to bring the cable with me if i want to use it on my 20gb ipod. thanks man!

I just used it with my 5G iPod (with Video).
All my covers were gone : /
If you got an iPod that can display covers, dont use it with Winamp if you don’t want chaos on your iPod.

I HAVE TO COPY 2000 TRACKS AND 6GB OF OTHER DATA WITH USB 1.1!!!

It works great for me so far, just one problem; I tried downloading a couple skins to use with it but they won’t work. Is that intentional to save space, or is it a bug?

Ty I downloaded one from someone else that was new and couldn’t get AOL XM etc..
just plain ol’ winamp and this one works just fine, ty, ty very much…also that one I had was about a meg or so more than this one..

It would be super if you could port v5.2.
And seeing how if you try and use portable5.1 on a computer with 5.2, stuff in 5.1 won’t work, like radio.
I’m gonna try to just overwrite the 5.1 files on my jump with 5.2 files…

If you delete diectsoud (& just use waveout) you can make it even smaller… That, combined with some rescorce hacking and other things, can get the whole thing down to 1.47mb (W00t)

ml_ipod used by Portable Winamp (for Ipod support) overwrites all album artwork from your Ipod. As mentionned by Zephyr, if you use it with 5G Video ipod, be forewarned.

Why don’t my MMD3 settings stay the same? Everytime I restart Winamp I have to select the color of my skin, the Play list? All my settings change every time?

Great app! Two things to mention:
1. I haven’t tried it with my iPod shuffle yet. I’ll try it sometime soon. Also FYI iPod shuffle users can transfer files via Windows Explorer, without iTunes via iPod Shuffle DB: http://shuffle-db.sourceforge.net/ (requires Python but you can compile the script into a Windows executable using py2exec, which is what I did). Unfortunately this method is only for transfer, so you’ll still need portable winamp for music playback.
2. It would be nice if you could integrate the MP3tunes.com Oboe Media player plugin for Winamp into portable winamp so that users can listen to their online music locker from anywhere, without having to log in via a browser.

I just installed this to my portable hard drive.. ran it for the first time and its telling me that an update is available. I’m ASSUMING that the update it’s refering to is for the FULL version and i shouldn’t install? I cancelled it this time around.. but i’d like to know (i have gadget lust and HAVE to have the latest and greatest), so if 5.24 is really available.. i’d like to get it if possible.
